Job Description

MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

 

1.  Administer and enforce all provisions of law, Commissioner’s Regulations and Board policies as they relate to student discipline and student attendance.

2.   Coordinate special activities for students including assemblies, field trips, exchange programs, and competitions.

3.  Evaluate the performance of professional and support staff personnel.

4.  Assist in the development and coordination of teacher, student and building schedules.

5.   Serve as a liaison with community agencies that are concerned with the health and welfare of adolescents.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

 

1.   Student Personnel

 

  • enforce the student disciplinary policies established by Board Policy in accordance with Commissioner’s Regulations and Education Law.
  • maintains a system for keeping detailed records of discipline problems.
  • work closely with the Supervisor of Transportation to administer and enforce transportation discipline policies.
  • conduct parent, student, teacher conferences as the needs dictate.
  • supervise the cafeteria monitoring program and lunch line traffic
  • assign teachers to supervise detention hall and in-school suspension in accordance with negotiated agreement.
  • provide background on students in student disciplinary hearings, on probation reports, in court appearances, etc.

 

2.   Teaching and Support Staff

 

  • conduct orientation programs for substitute employees.
  • account for attendance of building employees on forms provided by the District.
  • assist in the interviewing and evaluation of staff members in accordance with the procedures approved by the District.
  • inspect teacher planbooks on a periodic basis.

 

3.  Student Activities

 

  • supervise and coordinate assembly programs.
  • assign teachers to supervise student activities in accordance with negotiated agreement.
  • be available to supervise after school/evening activities.
  • organize and conduct the student orientation program.
  • approve and coordinate public address announcements and student bulletin board announcements as they relate to school and non-school activities.
  • enforce regulations pertaining to visitors and supervise general use of school buildings and grounds.
  • serve as administrative liaison to specified extracurricular groups.

 

4.  Scheduling

 

  • assist in the development of the Master Schedule.
  • work cooperatively with the Guidance Department to resolve scheduling conflicts.
  • coordinate the use of facilities requests in accordance with the District Policy.

 

5.  Teachers

 

  • evaluate teacher performance in accordance with the procedures approved by the District.
  • conduct monthly orientation sessions for new teachers in accordance with current practice.
  • inspect teacher planbooks, grade books and attendance books.
  • coordinate all state mandated reporting; i.e. BEDS, Step, etc.

 

6.   Administration

 

  • assist in the desegregation of student performance data and subsequent development of plans for remediation and intervention.
  • assist in the general administration of the school and serve as Principal in his/her absence.
  • coordinate and collect publicity items of interest for the District Newsletter and the local media.
  • serve on committees assigned by the District or the Principal.
  • conduct fire and safety drills in accordance with local and state regulations.
  • conduct cursory building inspections and report to the Principal for direction.
  • coordinate the inventory of school equipment, supplies and textbooks.
  • work collaboratively with the administration team to ensure the core teacher’s curriculum is aligned with NYS Standards.
  • Assist with the administration of final and midyear examinations, including both state and local assessments.
  • Coordinate and monitor quarterly reporting with Guidance Staff.
  • Serve as administrative liaison to specific academic departments.
  • perform other duties assigned by the High School Principal.
Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:     1.  At least five (5) years successful experience in teaching.

                                    2.  A Master’s Degree or higher.

                                    3.  A School Administrator and Supervisor Certificate or    

                                               equivalent.
