Job Description

JOB GOAL:                 The work involves responsibility for the performance of routine and semi-skilled work in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment in a suburban school district.  This class differs from that of an Automotive Mechanic in that the assigned tasks require a less extensive knowledge of mechanical systems and repair techniques. The incumbent may assist a more skilled or experienced mechanic in performing more difficult repair work. On routine tasks the employee works with considerable independence but is supervised directly by an Automotive Mechanic or Head Bus Driver on new or difficult tasks.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Some knowledge of tools and equipment used in motor vehicle maintenance  work.
  2. Some knowledge of automotive lubrication methods.
  3. Skill in use and care of automotive servicing tools and equipment.
  4. Ability to determine by inspection of automotive equipment need for grease, oil, water and gasoline.
  5. Ability to assist in making minor mechanical repairs on large engine and automotive equipment.
  6. Ability to perform all maintenance and repair on small engine equipment.
  7. Ability to carry out simple oral and written instructions.
  8. Ability to keep simple written records; physical strength and agility.
  9. Mechanical aptitude.
  10. Dependability.
  11.  Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
  12. Assists in cleaning of buses during inclement weather at starting or moving.
  13. May be required to pick up parts or materials and load\unload. 
  14. Does related work as required.

Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:   1.  Must have working knowledge of routine and semi-    skilled work in the repair and maintenance of automotive, buses and truck equipment.

  1. Must have the ability to perform all tires and wheel      related repairs.
  2. Must have the ability to inspect vehicles for mechanical defects or assist and Automotive Mechanic in performing more skilled repairs and mechanical maintenance.
  3. Must have the ability to assist in the performance of all maintenance and repairs.
  4. Must have the ability to perform body, fabricating and paint work as required.
  5. Must have the ability to maintain a written record of work performed by recording the equipment number, the work performed, the parts used, and parts numbers.
  6. Must have CDL Class B with P endorsement, will be required to drive school buses, vans and other department vehicles.
  7. Must have ability to assist in snow removal at the transportation site.
  8. Must have the ability to lift medium size weights.
  9. Must be willing to perform routine manual work.
  10. Must be willing to work under all weather conditions.
  11. Must have completed a minimum of an eighth-grade education.
  12. Must have the ability to perform the equivalent of eighth grade mathematical computations.
