1. Assists the Medical Director, District Health Committee and administrators in developing the school health program;
2. Good Knowledge of nursing techniques and their relation to medical
practices;
3. Good knowledge of medication administration/pharmacology; ability to assess and apply therapeutic and pharmacological treatments as prescribed; ability to understand and carry out exact detailed oral and written instructions
4. Accompanies and observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs; on the bus/field trips by carrying out routine therapeutic treatments, such as, preparing and applying dressings and administering certain medications, upon specific instructions of a licensed health care provider.
5. Maintains current cumulative health records on students assigned;
6. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters, as directed by the Medical Director;
7. Assumes authority in the absence of a Medical Director or Physician for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness;
8. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures;
9. Makes recommendations to the Medical Director, on health needs of individual students;
10. When necessary, contacts parents regarding their child’s health needs;
11. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases when necessary;
12. Participates in in-service training;
13. Assists school/transportation personnel in maintaining sanitary standards on the bus and in schools;
14. Handles other health related responsibilities as may be assigned by the Medical Director and Superintendent of Schools.
15. May also be assigned in school buildings to offer additional support to Registered Nurses with various tasks.
