JOB GOAL:               

                        Good Knowledge of nursing techniques and their relation to medical practices; good knowledge of sanitation and personal hygiene, good knowledge of medication administration/pharmacology; ability to apply therapeutic treatments as prescribed; ability to understand and carry out exact detailed oral and written instructions; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to get along well with students and others; sound judgment; physical commensurate with the demands of the position.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Under the direction of the Medical Director/School Physician or designee, accompanies the student or students on the bus by carrying out routine therapeutic treatments, such as, preparing and applying dressings and administering certain medications, upon specific instructions of a licensed health care provider.

Performance Responsibilities, such as, but not limited to:

 

  1. Assists the Medical Director, District Health Committee and administrators in developing the school health program;
  2. Conducts school programs in accordance with New York State Mandated Screening, Vision, Hearing, Scoliosis Testing, Height, Weights, and Immunization Screening and Reporting;
  3. Observes students on a regular basis to detect health needs;
  4. Maintains current cumulative health records on all students;
  5. Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on student health matters, as directed by the Medical Director;
  6. Assumes authority in the absence of a Medical Director or Physician for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness;
  7. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures;
  8. Makes recommendations to the Medical Director and/or Director of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics on health needs of individual students;
  9. When necessary, contacts parents regarding their child’s health needs;
  10. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases;
  11. Participates in in-service training;
  12. Assists school personnel in maintaining sanitary standards in schools;
  13. Assists with physical examination of students and staff;
  14. Keeps the Building Principal informed of health-related situations on a regular basis;
  15. Handles other health related responsibilities as may be assigned by the Medical Director, Building Principal, Director of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics and Superintendent of Schools.
